The new album by Lino Strangis entitled Godless Ritual Music is out for Handmade Supernova.

A tracklist of 6 pieces of experimental instrumental electronic music is printed on vinyl in a limited series of 200 copies, including 170 standard and 30 Deluxe copies. The musical proposal, created with a typical approach for the productions of Strangis, consists in a selection of fragments from a series of improvisation sessions performed by himself with different sets of synthesizers during the first months of the lockdown 2020. Strangis, who has always taken care by himself of his own opera, for this occasion has chosen the artist Pasquale De Sensi (among other things he has won the BEST ART VINYL ITALIA award several times) to create the cover and collaborate on the packaging design.

The concept is already clarified in the title, which refers to a research that intends to find some form of "ritual use" of the musical experience but in a context free from theological speculations (which the artist defines as sacred to laicity). This “ritual use” is rediscovered with instruments, sounds and aesthetic purposes that are different because they are closely related to contemporaneity.

The tracks, that lead electronic music to give up much of its usual definition to cross over into noise, combine very different influences: from the music of K. Schulze to punk, passing through veins of tribal and traditional music, Indian and Far East. They’re melted in a mix that doesn’t forget some clear rock-metal origins and then, a lot of psychedelia.

Una tracklist di 6 brani di musica elettronica sperimentale di tipo strumentale stampati su vinile in una limitata serie di 200 copie di cui 170 standard e 30 copie Deluxe. La proposta musicale, realizzata con un approccio ormai tipico per la produzione musicale di Strangis, consiste in una selezione di frammenti (a opera dell’artista) da una serie di sessioni di improvvisazione da egli stesso performate con differenti set di sintetizzatori durante i primi mesi del lockdown 2020. Per l’occasione Strangis (che, in quanto artista poliedrico in molte occasioni ha curato personalmente le sue edizioni in ogni aspetto) ha scelto l’artista Pasquale De Sensi (tra le altre cose plurivincitore del premio BEST ART VINYL ITALIA) per realizzare la copertina e collaborare al design del packaging.

Il concept si chiarisce già nel titolo che si riferisce ad una ricerca che intende ritrovare una qualche forma di “uso rituale” dell’esperienza musicale ma in un contesto libero da speculazioni teologiche (che l’artista definisce come sacro alla laicità) e soprattutto riscoperto con strumenti, sonorità e finalità estetiche differenti in quanto peculiari della contemporaneità. I brani, che portano la musica elettronica a cedere molta della sua abituale definizione per sconfinare nel noise, uniscono influenze molto differenti: dalla musica di K. Schulze al punk passando per venature di musiche tribali e tradizionali, indiane e dell’estremo oriente, il tutto in un mix che non dimentica di ricordare chiare provenienze rock-metal e poi, molta psichedelia.
